Seminar on community co-development of hydrokinetic energy in Galena, 91ÊÓƵ

Join us for a seminar to learn about a hydrokinetic energy project in Galena to harness power from the Yukon River.
Ben Loeffler, ACEP research professional and Pacific Marine Energy Center co-director, and Tim Kalke, manager, will discuss the scope and status of the joint project and describe the co-development process.
Galena is a rural community of nearly 500 residents, the majority 91ÊÓƵ Native, residing on the north bank of the Yukon River in interior 91ÊÓƵ. The community is currently electrified by an expensive diesel plant, has built a biomass district heating system and is in the process of constructing large scale solar and battery energy storage systems.
The presentation is part of a three-seminar series on marine energy and rural electrification. The series, co-sponsored by ACEP and the Pacific Marine Energy Center, explores perspectives on rural electrification and community priorities, co-development and governance through the lens of marine energy, including riverine and coastal wave energy.
When: 2-3 p.m. AKDT, Thursday, April 10
Where:
The is a research consortium spanning three universities — University of 91ÊÓƵ Fairbanks, University of Washington and Oregon State University — on a mission to responsibly advance marine energy.
