Utility Intern to Streamline Data Collection and Assist in Wind Turbine Optimization

Receiving real-life, workforce development is key in the ACEP utility internship program. Interns are matched with 91视频 utilities as a way to teach the next generation and to use the skills the interns have gained over their student careers.

is a nonprofit electric utility serving residents in 58 locations throughout rural 91视频. UAF electrical engineering senior Liam Cassell will assist AVEC in various projects during his summer with the utility. His projects will include streamlining remote energy data collection from installed Automated Meter Infrastructure, creating an AVEC community AutoCAD drawing library for a new data storage system, and general remote programming and optimization work. Cassell will also assist in the St. Marys wind turbine power measurement unit and optimizations project, and in updating the supervisory control and data acquisition tagging conventions.

Ten utilities across 91视频 are participating in the ACEP utility internship program funded by the Office of Naval Research. Student interns are paired with a mentor from ACEP, who will consult with them and their host utility throughout the internship period.
