Hawaii Researcher Demonstrates Grid Monitoring System in PSI Lab
ACEP recently hosted Kevin Davies from the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute at the University of Hawaii. Davies and his colleagues have developed an Advanced Real-time Grid Energy Monitor System (ARGEMS) for high-resolution data acquisition at distribution service transformers, with the potential to control distributed energy resources.
To integrate a large amount of distributed photovoltaics and other distributed energy resources onto an electric grid, utilities need greater awareness of the variable conditions introduced by these resources. ARGEMS addresses this need by providing a high-performance, flexible, robust, low-cost and easy-to-install data acquisition system.
Davies shared research goals and ideas with ACEP researchers, followed by a demonstration of the ARGEMS in ACEP's Power Systems Integration Lab.
