Cicilio, Shah Present at Industrial Electronics Society Conference

The  of the Institute of Electrical and Electrical Engineers’ Industrial Electronics Society, held Oct. 13-16, 2021, brought together international presenters focused on power systems controls, renewable energy integration and much more.

ACEP faculty and power systems researcher Phylicia Cicilio chaired a special session at the virtual conference with co-chairs Tim Hansen and Reinaldo Tonkoski from South Dakota State University. They are part of the converter-dominated power systems team funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science’s . The special session was titled "Advances in Component and System Modeling and Simulation of Power Systems in Transition to Converter-Dominated Systems."

ACEP Ph.D. student Chinmay Shah and SDSU Ph.D. student and former ACEP visiting researcher Manisha Raniyar presented papers at the special session titled "Model Development of Diesel Generator Using Volts/Hertz Limiter and Comparing Governor Models for Remote Islanded Microgrids" and "Diesel Generator Model Development and Validation using Moving Horizon Estimation." These papers covered high-fidelity modeling techniques of diesel generators, which is important as an integral part of remote microgrids in 91ÊÓƵ as additional inverter-based resources are added to these systems.

Funding for this special session has been provided by the basic energy sciences program within the DOE Office of Science. Supplemental support has come from the DOE Office of Electricity’s microgrid research and development program and the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Solar Energy Technology Office.
