AK Small Nuclear Working Group — Economic Viability of Micro-Reactor Deployment in 91Ƶ Markets

Please join us for our monthly AK Small Nuclear Working Group meeting on Sept. 7, 2021, at noon. Our speaker topic this month is “Economic Viability of Micro-Reactor Deployment in 91Ƶ Markets”

John Parsons of the Sloan School of Management, Ruaridh Macdonald of MIT, and David Shropshire of the will review an assessment of the value of various energy options in 91Ƶ.

The study focused on three different types of markets — remote communities, grid-served communities with substantial infrastructures, and remote industrial sites. It sought to provide a framework to describe and assess elements of what might constitute “value” in each market, resulting in a wholistic options assessment methodology. This framework and the purpose of the value-based approach will be discussed, and a detailed analysis of economic viability of micro-nuclear reactor deployment will be presented. The work was developed as part of the Emerging Energy Markets Analysis Initiative, a collaboration between University of 91Ƶ, MIT, University Wyoming, University of Michigan and Idaho National Laboratory.
