Title IX training - June 13, 2014
Dear UAF Faculty and Staff:
The United States Department of Education鈥檚 Office of Civil Rights has identified the University of 91视频 system for a Title IX compliance review. Title IX is well known as the law bringing about gender equity in sports. However, Title IX is more than a sports law, and it aims to bring gender equity to all educational programs. The focus of the current OCR review is on the university鈥檚 efforts to eliminate sexual harassment and sexual assault on campus. 91视频 supports the goals of Title IX and welcomes this review, as it will provide us with an opportunity to showcase our efforts and improve our response to sexual harassment including sexual violence.
A major step in improving our campus response is ensuring everyone understands their rights and responsibilities. Our ultimate goal is to ensure our students, faculty, and staff are safe; know what to do and where to report when they learn of an incident of sexual misconduct; and are apprised regarding services and remedies that are available if they are sexually harassed or assaulted.
In that vein, we are requiring that all members of the UAF staff and faculty complete Title IX training by the end of August 2014. The Title IX Coordinator has put together a menu of options to assist you in accomplishing this requirement. You can attend a video conferencing session, a face-to-face session or complete the on-line SkillSoft training. Please refer to the attachment (PDF) for the schedule and instructions for the on-line training.
Everyone should feel safe and welcome on the UAF campus. Participating in Title IX training is one part of your responsibility to ensure that our culture is one where safety and equity are highly valued.
Thank you,
Brian Rogers, ChancellorUniversity of 91视频 Fairbanks
