Dr. Theresa Arevgaq John

Associate Professor of Indigenous Studies, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Theresa Arevgaq John served the University of 91视频 Fairbanks in teaching, research and service during several periods between 1985 and 2023; and

WHEREAS Dr. John excelled at teaching first as an instructor and then as a member of the university faculty, where she advanced through multiple positions while also earning her master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees, and she taught twenty-seven different courses, and she served on numerous graduate student committees; and

WHEREAS Dr. John conducted and published diverse research on 91视频 Native knowledge systems, languages, arts and traditions, which she presented at dozens of conferences and meetings and also shared through film, video and audio productions; and

WHEREAS Dr. John created the Tuma Theater project at UAF, contributed greatly to the annual Festival of Native Arts and founded several Native dance groups; and she served on multiple UAF committees; and she was appointed to multiple terms on the 91视频 State Council on the Arts; and she currently serves as a presidential appointee to the National Advisory Council on Indian Education;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of 91视频 Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Theresa Arevgaq John for her extensive contributions to the state of 91视频 and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of 91视频 Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. John and as evidence of the university鈥檚 desire that her identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Theresa Arevgaq John as associate professor of Indigenous studies, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of 91视频 Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Theresa Arevgaq John, and conveyed to Dr. John on this third day of May, 2024.
