Dear UAF community,

A short time ago, you received a directing how the universities across UA should implement the latest health mandates to come from the state. is a “shelter in place” mandate. prohibits in-state travel, with few exceptions.

I know there are many questions about how these restrictions will affect your work and studies. While some details continue to be worked out, beginning at 5 p.m. today, UAF employees and students must adhere to the new guidance from the state and UA systemwide implementation of the state’s new guidance.

These past few weeks have been challenging and I want to thank you — our students, faculty and staff — for your patience, understanding and hard work. I continue to work closely with university leadership across the system and UAF to adjust to the changing situation. The health and well-being of our community continues to be our number one priority. Please follow all mandates and guidelines, practice social distancing, and whether you are continuing in-person work or working from home, thank you. Importantly, if you are feeling sick, take sick leave and stay home, self-monitor, and call your health care provider for directions on what to do if you have COVID-19-like symptoms.

UAF is a community where people look out for each other. I ask that you take the time to reach out to colleagues, friends and family who may be feeling isolated. Whether you are working from home or you are providing an essential service at UAF, this can be a lonely time. Take care of yourself. If you are a student and need someone to talk to please contact the . If you are an employee, please take advantage of our .

Thank you for your patience as we learn to balance greater social distance. Thank you for choosing UAF. Be well.
