Series: "Uni-versity: Alternative Visions for Higher Education”
Join us for “Uni-versity: Alternative Visions for Higher Education” – a two-part series on innovation in higher education. This event is available in-person and online on May 14 and 21.
Innovation in higher education doesn’t have to wait for perfect conditions—it can start with conversation, imagination, and connection. In this two-part series, we invite UAF staff and faculty to explore new possibilities for the future of our university.
This event is available in-person and online.
Part 1 (May 14, 9-11 a.m.) centers on David Staley’s Alternative Universities: Speculative Design for Innovation in Higher Education, which offers bold models for rethinking higher ed in response to global and social shifts. Together, we’ll discuss selected excerpts (provided) and consider how these ideas might inspire transformation at UAF.
In Part 2 (May 21, 9 a.m. – noon), we’ll get creative. Through collaborative world-building and thoughtful discussion, participants will imagine practical and even outrageous futures for UAF. This session is about dreaming big, grounding ideas in shared values, and connecting with others who care deeply about our institution. You'll leave with renewed hope, energy, and a sense of agency to help shape UAF’s path forward.
All are welcome — bring your curiosity and your vision.
This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Student Success Center.
