The Peter MacKeith Photography Exhibition is an annual photography competition created to encourage amateur photographers and adventurers to explore their creativity. The 2019 exhibition will open on February 1st in Arctic Java. A reception will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm that night, and the show will be displayed through the month of February.
The exhibition is in memoriam of Peter MacKeith, a geoscientist and doctoral student at UAF. MacKeith died while summiting Old Snowy Peak near Delta Junction in 1980. His family created the Peter MacKeith Endowment, which funds the photography exhibition. MacKeith is remembered as a great climber, adventurer, and photographer.
Every year, the exhibition welcomes submissions from students of all majors and photographic skill levels. Prizes are awarded to winners of categories including Color, Black and White, Portrait, and Outdoor Adventure. Winners are selected a panel of judges including students and staff from across campus. This year, the winners will be announced at the show opening.
The Peter MacKeith Exhibition is sponsored by the Student Activities Office. Questions regarding submissions, the exhibition, or the program itself can be directed to uaf-sao@alaska.edu.
